GA Games 3k
Last weekend was a fun foray back into training at the GA Games. Originally, John and I were signed up for the Ridges 5k swim but opted out since it was such a long day and we had other stuff going on. So I downgraded (downgraded meaning stayed more local) to the GA Games 5k, then opted to just swim the 3k instead. Mostly I went in support of Daniel who used it as prep for his very first IRONMAN and Michelle who swam her first ever 3k.
I was still feeling pretty fatigued from CDA at the dreaded two week mark. I have done halves at the two week mark before (which is the worst!) so I knew the swim would feel a bit more uncomfortable than usual but it was just training. Enjoyed it and Daniel and Michelle completed successfully as well along with Christopher, who is training for IM CHATT as well.
I did notice that the lake was warmer than I had ever felt it and it smelled awful. For the 3k you’re swimming right around the edge of the lake so get additional exposure to what I can only describe as spoiled fish stew. Didn’t think much of it, but my experiences with over-drinking in open water are well documented.
I was rewarded for my efforts with the stomach parasite of doom which led to being curled in a ball and unable to even hold down a sip of water for ~24 hours. Talk about an inauspicious start to my #12weeksallin!
This is what happens when you wait too long to get your medal and they award you the ‘gold’ instead of the silver medal. Don’t worry, I returned it!
