John Tanner Sprint Tri

Published by Bethany on

I love doing this race each year because it’s the start of the Atlanta tri season. I had a great start to the year at Florida 70.3, but a few bumps in the road cropped up after that. Specifically, I ended up with a root canal, infection, minor temp and on antibiotics the week of John Tanner. Nooo!!! Though of course it is a low stakes race I still wanted to do well racing with all my friends. I would generally not recommend racing on antibiotics but it was just Amoxicillin so I figured I would probably be okay but feel a little weak and bad possibly. Anyways, FOMO and the thought that it could still turn out well sucked me in. 😉

The morning of, it nearly looked like the race wouldn’t happen. I was especially excited about seeing Cori and Daniel tackle their first triathlons as well as a host of others from Atlanta Tri Club. Though as the morning dragged on and the race was delayed I have to admit part of me wished they would cancel so I wouldn’t have to race personally, I still wanted all the first timers to get to race!

As it happened the race did go on. I felt about expected okay on the swim and weak and wobbly on the bike and run. Uber bikers Carrie and Susie zoomed by me on the bike and I couldn’t even muster up a chase turning in a PW bike. (Not that I would have been able to keep up with them anyways! ;)) The run was also my slowest John Tanner run and I had no shot at catching anyone. I barely, barely, managed to hold off the hard charging ladies behind me to nab third! (Fastie Megan Degan took herself out of it and listed separately as a pro!)

I definitely couldn’t be upset about coming in third to these ladies and it was cool to have an ATC sweep on the female podium! Also, Cori came in 2nd AG at her very first triathlon with super solid splits. Daniel also placed 2nd in his age group AND He clocked one of the fastest bike splits on his roadie. Finally, Hilary posted 2nd AG as well with PRs all around, and Rich kicked off his season on the podium as well! #proudcoach

All in all a great day. 7th year at John Tanner, fifth racing. 11154719_10152664719417757_6251420918874856063_o
