Tri the Mountains

We had an amazing time this weekend at Escape to Blue Ridge- Tri the Mountains! AJ Petrillo, Georgia Multisports and co put on a great race. After a weeklong battle with a lake bug I was uncertain about my original decision to race in the OPEN/ ELITE category, but I felt bad backing out. We started in the front. There were five women and about ten men. For possibly the first time ever I was ‘first out of the water.’ Running into transition, I was excited by that and had a great transition time. After that, I instantly burned up …

#12weeksallin

So I totally meant to write about #12weeksallin two weeks ago, but time just got away from me. If you’ve been doing triathlon for a long time, then you’ve probably realized that no matter how gung ho you were at first, now matter how diligently you’ve trained, or how badly you want to improve, the way motivation works is that it ebbs and flows. In some ways I’ve been all in since the beginning. There is certainly a lot more to life than triathlon, but I enjoy living the lifestyle. Triathlon has become my hobby and also my job. I spend …

GA Games 3k

Last weekend was a fun foray back into training at the GA Games. Originally, John and I were signed up for the Ridges 5k swim but opted out since it was such a long day and we had other stuff going on. So I downgraded (downgraded meaning stayed more local) to the GA Games 5k, then opted to just swim the 3k instead. Mostly I went in support of Daniel who used it as prep for his very first IRONMAN and Michelle who swam her first ever 3k. I was still feeling pretty fatigued from CDA at the dreaded …

IRONMAN CDA: What. A. Day!

IRONMAN Couer D’Alene was about the experience, and enjoying one of the most brutal race days in IRONMAN history. Was CDA (Subjectively) the Toughest? A Breakdown… I have gone back and forth several times as to which has been the most epic and tough IM (so far) to finish. Was it IRONMAN St. George 2012 with the 30% DNF rate, complete impossibility of sighting on the swim course, terrible 40 mph  windstorm on the bike resulting in an extra hour and a half and feeling quite sure I wouldn’t be able to make it. Highlights included fantasizing about crashing out so I could have …

Escape from Alcatraz 2015

Pre-race:  This race was a surprising blast. Originally I had looked at this as John’s bucket list race and not really mine. But I certainly didn’t want to miss out and FOMO is powerful. We signed up to raise money through Medshare, which is a great organization we didn’t even know about before that redistributes medical supplies to those in need. Thanks to generous friends and family we were able to meet our goal.It was cool that we got to also travel with friends and hang out with John’s sister’s family and parents. All in all a very busy weekend. …

Chattanooga 70.3 Race Report

Started in the back with Laura, Hilary, Amy, and we had a fun time in line. At IM Chatt I really enjoyed starting in the back because of the massive affect of slingshotting on the bike. If I had to do it again tomorrow, though I would start up more. I felt fantastic on the swim. Definitely am feeling the effects of more recent swim training. I felt like the swim would be a non-factor because of some current help and indeed the times were very mushed together. I was thinking around 30′ so was happy to pop up a …
