Hello 2015! What’s Been Happenin’…

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted. The truth is I’ve been very busy and blogging about training, which is the purported point of this blog, has fallen by the wayside a little bit. I have certainly been training though in the hopes that this year, coming off a disappointing, injury laden 2014, will be awesome! Step one was to stop taking things more seriously and have a bit more fun, which has been a bit of a theme lately. The truth is I almost always have fun training (except perhaps during long solo swims) but I wanted …

Charles Harris 2015

We had a great time at this race again this year. This is always one of my favorites.     My mileage was insanely low going into this race (like 14 miles a week 4 week average), thus my expectations were also low. I lined up at the front and hoped for the best. There were lots of ATCers to keep pace with so I focused on a feeling instead of on keeping a certain pace. Looking at my splits later, it was strange that many of my miles were the same to the second or almost to the second. …

ATC Year End Party “Race Report”

First up, a race report from the awesomeness that was the Atlanta Tri Club year end party. Every year this gets better, and this year was no exception. We handed out 27 individual awards and recognized over 100 individual Atlanta Tri Club members through awarding magnets with race distances (John’s awesome idea). These magnets cannot be bought, they are only handed out at socials and the end of the year party. How cool was it this year to see so many tackle everything from their first sprint to their first IRONMAN. Our Atlanta Tri Club sponsors also came out in …

Working your Weakness 2.0: The Swim

By bethany This is the second article in our four part series about attacking your weakness in the off-season. To start from the beginning, check out Part 1 of Working your Weakness 2.0. To swim or not to swim during the winter months? That is the question. Just to summarize the common arguments on both sides, here they are: Reasons NOT to swim It’s only x percentage of the race overall, so it doesn’t matter (to you) I’m only losing x number of potential minutes due to my poor swimming compared to xx(x!) number of potential minutes gained by focusing …

The Next Big Thing 2015

I originally posted this in 2012, but re-posted it a few weeks ago, because everything in there still applies! What will be the next big thing 2015? When I was a kid, all I wanted was to be an Olympic gymnast. I would stay up late at night watching tapes of meets. Every day after school I would go to our local gym and stay there for hours. There was a series of books somewhat like the babysitters club, only about gymnasts, and I would read them over and over, literally hundreds of times. Sure I was six inches taller, …
