Winter Run Race Recap

I have no idea how it’s March already. I’ve been training hard and resting hard and good things have been happening. I wanted to do a few run races early in the year so I could get a sense of where I was at heading into tri season.  Race #1- Polar Bear 5k I have done this race several years in a row. This year I had really fresh legs.. but it was also because I just started training post flu. So my expectations were low. I went out easy and it didn’t feel too bad. Finished in 19:17 and …

QOTW: How can I get up that early?!

By bethany Unless you have a flexible or nontraditional work schedule, something that nearly every dedicated athlete must face is the prospect of getting some training done early in the morning, while others are still snug in their beds. But how best to make it happen? This week’s question is answered below by some of our faithful morning regulars and AM instructors. Some of these folks have dutifully been attending 5:30 and 6 AM classes for as long as we’ve been open! Read below for ideas on best practices! “Buy an alarm clock…and get a wife/husband who will shame you …

2014 Schedule Locked and Loaded

Well, after the “false start” I mentioned on my previous post, which turned into several weeks of flu and flu recovery, it’s almost time to race! The only good thing about the flu is that it can leave you without the winter gain. The downside of course, is that you end up weak as a kitten and out of shape to boot. I’m excited to tackle the list below. …

QOTW: Is it better to ride on the trainer or outside?

By bethany With the swing in winter temperatures in Atlanta and surrounding areas, we often have a choice: bundle up and brave the great outdoors, or a trainer ride. You may have also wondered which is the superior choice. Like many things, the answer is “it depends” Specifically, the best choice depends on the purpose of the workout and your goal. There are clear situations where riding outdoors wins out since there are a couple of things that cannot be replicated well indoors. The most obvious example is bike handling. The importance of bike handling skills beyond basic safety varies …

A look back and a look ahead

Looking back, a lot of great things happened in 2013. Growing Atlanta Tri Club and Energy Lab, new opportunities personally and professionally, and lots of hope and momentum going into 2014.  Racing wise there were some ups, some downs, and some in-betweens. Notably, I celebrated the one year mark of leaving the corporate world to pursue what I like to call “triathlon related activities” full-time including growing and managing Energy Lab and ATC alongside John and our other partners, as well as other side pursuits such as writing, speaking, and coaching. It has been a wonderful year and I feel very …
