Peachtree Road Race 2014

Published by Bethany on

I was way more excited about this race than usual. Normally, it is just something I do because I want to build up a year over year streak. Some years I have done it for fun, and some I have tried to race it hard. In the racing it hard scenario, I usually end up disappointed. It is a really hard race and it’s always blazing to boot!

This year I decided on a “hybrid” approach. I wanted some costuming but nothing that would interfere with running fast. As I haven’t gotten to race much this year because of injury I had the thought a potential Ptree PR in the back of my mind. I was also pumped about the relative simplicity of a run-only race as well as the fact that no swim meant I could wear my fave 110% socks the whole race! Most folks I talked with seemed unenthused at the thought of makeup and costumes but Chrissy was game. I met in her building  parking garage and exchanged hair paint and stickers before heading down to Marta.

We looked extremely goofy. I have no photos, because I didn’t think to take one and I feel guilty posting the Marathon Foto ones and it’s also not worth the amount they’re asking me to pay. Here’s the link…http://www.marathonfoto.com/offering/1477d81b45d7cf97

Thinking back on all my previous Peachtrees, I knew I needed to work the downhills to PR and the first three miles were key. Here’s how it turned out: http://www.strava.com/activities/161767868

My GAP was actually pretty even and no miles were over 7 minutes. I actually ended up officially at 40:23 which landed me fourth in age group for about a 20 second PTREE PR that I will happily take. I don’t think I will ever achieve an actual 10k PR on this course. 🙂 Goal is to break 40′ next year, which will be tough!
