Week 1 Down and SheMoves 5k Race Report

Published by Bethany on

It’s always tough to get started after a long break. This week marked a return to training and the beginning of a swimming focus. As swimming is always in contention to be “my third best sport” I am devoting a f solid period time to working on my weakness.

This is how day 1 felt..

Going from swimming almost zero to six times a week is a tough transition that I’ll be making over the next several weeks.

I capped off the end of my first week of training with a fun 5k. Friends Rich and April put on the SheMoves Reindeer Romp 5k,  that I did last year with Sadie. Sadie has been training for a few months, but then she strained her leg early in the week and was hobbling for a few days. She seemed okay on Friday and jogged easily with me but we were worried that a hard run would be too much for her. So in the end she had to stay home and sister Bailey stepped it up!

Fortunately, Bailey was happy to step in and did great. She was about a minute faster than Sadie was last year.. no potty stops and mostly minor bobbing and weaving.

Me, John, and Heather before the start. Heather carried her pomeranian in a sling! Check out that smile on Bailey’s face! So proud!

We ended up second overall (behind awesome runner/ pro Haley Chura) but first in the “mom and pup” division which was our stated goal. Lots of friends were there racing or volunteering and it was a good time. I would definitely recommend the SheMoves races.. they’re great for first-timers and also have a stroller and pup divisions. Hopefully Sadie will make it to the start line with me next year!

Me, Hilary Biscay, and Haley afterwards… and Bailey. I look like I’m trying to snuggle in for warmth!
