How to reset when you feel stuck

Published by Bethany on

What do you do when you feel stuck in any area?⁣

This is what works for me: change something. Anything. Then just go with it.⁣

Recent Life Changes

I’d been doing the same things the same way for a long time. Years. And even though life was good it was time to mix things up. A twin pregnancy + aftermath wasn’t exactly a small change, but it totally disrupted my routine for the better. ⁣

“Often, a teeny-tiny change acts as a catalyst to greater change along the way. ” ⁣

This is something I’ve seen time and again when it comes to endurance sport. So much that my friend Kathryn and I (briefly) ran a podcast to share stories in this area.⁣

Many elements of the stories were similar.⁣They start with someone who felt stuck in an area of life: a dead-end job, a⁣
dysfunctional relationship, an addiction, or lack of excitement and purpose.⁣ Then, an interruption or habit change disrupts their routine, leading to a huge⁣ shift in the way they live their lives.⁣

Here are a few small things that have disrupted my routine lately, with more far-reaching results than just a different mix of to-dos. ⁣

  • Creating a morning and bedtime routine for the fellas.⁣
  • Tweaking my routine as theirs changes (sometimes on the daily!)
  • Getting into a daily writing habit.⁣
  • Having quiet time before I start other projects for the day. ⁣
  • Finding virtual communities to support my interests and passions. (Such as @hopewriters who created this 14-day writing challenge.)⁣

Have you ever had any changes in behavior that have caused a dramatic shift in your life? If so, share them in the comments!
