Kelsey In Real Life
Status: #amwriting
Single mom reporter-slash-blogger Kelsey’s people-pleasing nature has led to a mixed bag in life. The bad: when her ex-husband believed she was the Marie Kondo meets Martha Stewart version of herself depicted in her blog, then divorced her when he discovered the truth.
The good: said blog led to an agent, bidding war, and book deal which means Kelsey can quit her job working under her ex, and that she and son Ry’s financial woes will soon be over.
There’s one catch: Kelsey has to be the person from “Kelsey’s Life,” originally intended as a creative outlet. It’s doable—with pharmaceutical aid and keeping the world at arm’s length. But when someone outs Kelsey by exposing her ugly google search history, her publisher pulls the book, and she’s left with no money and all shame.
With nothing left to lose, Kelsey begins blogging the stories behind her embarrassing Google searches— from “butt implants” to “why am I alive”—inadvertently becoming a poster child for Insta-fake backlash and making a name for herself as “Kelsey IRL.” But the same person who exposed her hot mess isn’t happy with Kelsey’s comeback. With the help of her handsome, irritating neighbor, Kelsey must find the person who wants to keep her quiet and finally find validation as her IRL self.
You Don’t Know Jack
Status: In Revision
Eighteen years ago, HAYLEY was caught in a love triangle between bad-boy JACK and his best friend, good-guy PAUL. Hayley believed their use of the hallucinogenic compound “Z” was harmless, until a drug-fueled fight ended in the death of Jack’s roommate, Bryan. Jack got the blame and prison, Paul escaped scot-free, and Hayley landed in long-term rehab at the behest of her controlling father.
After, thanks to her psychiatrist dad’s influence, Hayley started over, with no official connection to that night. Now an outwardly-successful prison psychologist, her violent impulses and bad memories are suppressed with meds, wine, and strict routine, until she’s assigned to evaluate parole candidate Jack.
Present-day Jack’s story casts doubt on whether he was villain or victim. Then Paul resurfaces, warning Jack’s claims are part of an elaborate scheme for revenge. To complicate things further, both men want a second chance with Hayley. With the addition of long-banned Z to aid her memory, Hayley revisits the past to untangle the truth about Bryan’s death and to decide who to trust. But what she learns could cost her license or life.
