QOTW: What should I be doing right now?

What kind and how much cycling should I be doing right now to make sure I’m ready for the season in 2014?

The short and rather unhelpful answer is, it depends. Your training will look very different based on what you have planned for the season. Let’s look at some different situations. and the type of training that’s right for right now.

Taking a break– If you’re in the off-season and taking a break from structured training, then your focus should be on unstructured physical activity. That doesn’t mean keep up your regular training schedule, but do a variety of activities and use the flexibility to try something new. Also, be sure to keep your break short enough so that it won’t take months to get back to where you want to be. How long is too long? Most people are ready to ease back into it after anywhere from 3-6 weeks depending on timing of your last races of the year, any burnout issues, and race schedule for the next year.
