Best Maternity Dress

Looking for something comfortable and flattering to wear during twin pregnancy? Me too. It took me awhile to find the best maternity dresses, but once I did I basically ignored everything else in my closet.

During my twin pregnancy, I was already in maternity clothes by week eight unable to face the thought of pants pushing into my stomach. Most of the pants I ordered went unworn and I spent months only in dresses.

Why? Well you’ll have to check out the differences in a twin pregnancy to understand. 🙂

I went through my fair share of maternity dresses, but strangely, some of my favorites weren’t even from the maternity section. And some I’m still wearing ten months post-partum, even after losing thirty plus pounds.

If I’d have known before that my dress preferences would have boiled down to just a couple brands and styles, I could have saved some money. Today I’ll share what I learned with you. Here were the best maternity dresses I found:

1. Ingrid and Isabel Tank Dress

I bought at least eight of these dresses and wore them nonstop. In the beginning, I optimistically figured I’d stay the same size throughout. Wrong! I went through three sizes of them. These dresses were perfect for any type of occasion, and while they were form-fitting, they weren’t skintight like some of the others.

Basically, they made it clear that you were pregnant and hadn’t just gained weight. I bought some nice summer colors, a few fall ones, and even a lace covered version that I wore to a wedding.

I also like that they were more of a midi length and covered my knees which got all weird during pregnancy. My only knock on these is that different colors are slightly tighter or looser than other options.

How to wear it:

For casual summer or fall, these dresses look great with a cardigan and flats. For the few occasions I managed heels during pregnancy, they looked great with those, too.

2. Ingrid and Isabel Off Shoulder Midi Dress

I only wish I wore this dress sooner. Instead I “saved it” for special occasions that mostly never came. I did wear it for one of my showers and post partum for a family photo shoot.

What I love about this dress is that it’s flattering before and after pregnancy. It highlights your bump without screaming pregnant, unlike many maternity dresses are “bump enhancing.” This is great for immediately after, when you don’t want people asking when you’re due.

How to wear it:

Looked awesome with flats. For my shower, I wore it with platform sandals like these.

3. Anabelle V Neck Solid Wrap Elastic Tie

My favorite all-around pick. I wish I’d discovered these dresses earlier in pregnancy. A girl in one of my facebook groups recommended and I eventually ordered, although I was suspicious of the low price.

This dress is everything! It’s extremely flattering and great for nursing and pumping postpartum. I wore these multiple times a week–even five months after pregnancy.

And eleven months post-pregnancy I probably still wear them once or twice a week.

They’ve survived spit-up, pee, baby food and worse—and the ensuing bleaching and frequent washes after quite well!

How to wear it: During the summer, I wore these dresses with flip-flops or flats. During the winter, they even looked cute with Uggs, a long duster, and a vest.

The bottom line? These dresses make you look put-together, even if you’re totally haggard from not sleeping.

4. Anabelle 3/4 V Neck Maxi

This dress is a close runner up to my favorite. Inexpensive and flattering and easy for pumping and/or feeding. I’m actually wearing the olive green right now. I had on the pink one earlier but Ethan spit up on it!

Moms, I’ll be honest. My fave thing about these dresses for early days is that they make it non-obvious you haven’t gotten dressed for the day at 5PM.

I love that first one! I made the mistake of thinking I could get away with loose-fitting dresses and shirts for a lot of my first pregnancy, but, as you said, I just looked like I gained a lot of weight. Love these suggestions!

Yes… that beginning stage is so awkward too when people just think you’ve had a succession of really good meals. 🙂

I am about done with my pregnancy, but maternity dresses are really amazing! I wore them much more my first pregnancy as I was super pregnant during the summer. This time around it’s winter time and I’m about to give birth!

Congrats in advance! I almost think dressing for a winter pregnancy would be worse as you might have to find pants!

These are so chic and comfy! It is my one regret that I didn’t wear more maxi dresses during my pregnancy!
